Do you know that Bob Marley song about the little birds?

“Woke up this morning, smiled at the rising sun” (something like that..)

And the little birds sing to him.

So yesterday morning, I myself woke up and …. I walked out the front door and “Whoosh!” I felt a wind pass by me and saw, at a short distance, a small bird land on the bare branches of my poor redbud tree that had suffered from a late frost 2 springs ago. (I couldn’t catch the bird on the tree… this is the tree:)

I looked overhead where the bird had come from and what did I see?

What a perfect place for a nest!

I was providing a home for her home.

And then… I thought again.

I looked further at the trees outside and the surrounding forest. I thought about the lake on the other side of my house and the mountains beyond. As my mind expanded, I could see: the much larger territory that was the bird’s home.

And my home within that.

That we, in essence, shared a home. The ground that supported her supported me. We were held.

Back inside much later as I walked towards my bedroom that night, I watched momma bird perched on the redbud branch. I was standing inside. Both soon would be resting in our “nests”, lying down.
