See that little bird? It’s down in the lower left quadrant? The loon.
I love loons. On this lake, they matter. That bird does matter.
I’m out kayaking with Peaches on this beautiful sunny afternoon, which felt welcome after the preceding cold and blustery days. Little wind. Beautiful foliage. Extraordinary to be here and it’s so quiet. No one else on the lake it seems.
And then, out of nowhere, I see a boat come toward us, zooming full speed ahead and not giving much clearance for it’s bouncy wake to settle between us. It’s going full throttle. There’s the whole wide lake and it’s cutting close.
And then just as it gets nearby, suddenly it slows way down. I wave to say hi and thank you! And then realize he’s not looking at me. A short distance to my side is… a loon.
Yes, a loon. The boat did NOT care what happened to Peaches and me. He was on his way. Gotta get there. And then he saw the bird.
Peaches and me? Not a glance. Not noticed.
But in that split second before I caught on, I THOUGHT we were seen.
Has that every happened to you? You think: it’s me! Oops…
(yeah, what about me? – Peaches has always been good at asking this question)
So, yes.
I’m opening my online shop soon. I’ll let you know when that happens
I’m hoping not to make any assumptions if I can help it.
