value of play

I’m inviting you to play.

Before I start creating my art on silk, I’m always thinking about:

  1. What colors I want to play with
  2. What images or concepts I want to explore/play with – such as the way light shifts when the sun rises from grey to shots of intense color at sunrise to less intense colors under full sun: ….or a ridiculous alphabet full of letters, numbers and animals that are all portrayed through a sequence of colors one color leadind into the next
  3. I consider: How do I want to present this: in one layer, two? or multiple. Hanging freely or framed.
  4. AND Who might enjoy this.

Play! Play! Play!

In my most recent exploration, I was taking the pieces of silk I’d saved over the years and making tiny tubes of color. I hung them on dowels in a sequence of color shifts. I was allowing the movement to come through the colors.

When people would ask what I was working on (working?), I would say, “detritus art”, laughing. Samsun didn’t like that name. So it was renamed: “delight us” art….

And yes, that is what I want to do. Deep in my heart. That’s why I create my art: as a means to delight.

And that is why I have it reproduced on scarves. For you to experience that. To feel that.

Delgiht.

Yes?

When I was creating this alphabet sequence, Hunter commented, “You’re having too much fun!”
