Spring is all about what’s coming into form, right? All about becoming. And unfolding.

AND…
Art is all about…

Yes.
You start with looking? With colors? With an idea?
Maybe this:

You look again.
“I wonder if I shift the colors a bit.
And play with the lines?”:

And play more:

Hmmm…
“I wonder:
How would this look if I used green?”

You are off and running.
It’s SPRING! No wonder you’re thinking of green. It’s happening outside your window – or will soon.
And inside, you are on your way.
I sometimes think of winter as being the challenge. The cold, the dark, the absence of vivid color. And that as the days get lighter, so do we. And that the outside shifts in nature reflect and enhance our inner sensibility.
I created these children water pastels one spring while in Maine. I had shattered my right wrist when I fell ice skating, so I could only use my left hand to draw. Which is something that I already loved to do even before that happened.
With the left hand, I didn’t EXPECT it to look a certain way. What I got was less mind. More feeling. More… wonder.
Watching it transform.
Like spring!

Hello, April! (a little wet… bring on the flowers!)
